Summary | 0008228: Unstable Buildings - occasional buildings seed as "unstable" as a variant to stash hunting
Description | An unstable building would look the same as a normal building, except that it is labelled as unstable on the entrance. Unstable buildings always contain only two rooms - a climbing room (similar to in a lieutenant tower), and an exit room at the top. The exit room is a small room with an exit teleporter that also counts as an "improved" stash - in additional to normal rewards, these rooms will always contain a rare enchant container (as a reward for overcoming the challenge.) The climbing room is also seeded as a normal stash room to give pickups to go after on the way up, and has occasional exit teleporters dotted around on the way up so the player can escape if necessary. When an unstable room is entered, a timer starts as the building begins to collapse. (At higher platforming difficulties, falling rubble also starts to drop through the building similar to in underground freefall missions as an additional threat.) When the timer runs out, the player dies as the building falls on them, meaning they need to get out before that happens (via the bottom door or via an exit telporter.) When the player leaves, the room is replaced with a destroyed room (since the building has then collapsed), making unstable buildings a one-chance raid.

This sounds like a great idea, but I wonder if it would be more appropriate as a mission? |
The problem with making it a mission as opposed to a loot room is that part of the challenge is in deciding whether to detour on the way up to pick up items as you go, or to go straight up as fast as possible to ensure you get to the top improved stash, so I'd say it wouldn't be better as a mission (since in a mission your objecives tend to be much more completion focused.) |
Seconded; also, the game needs more interesting things that can happen in the wild. |
I think this would also be great if the Overlord or even a Lieutenant, in spite, caused their building to start collapsing on death. That would make the experience of defeating them feel even more epic if you have to quickly escape afterwards. |
