Summary | 0008095: New Trap: Fans
Description | I was thinking about how the will-o-wisp pulling effect really adds a new layer of difficulty to gameplay and how it might be cool to see that mechanic elsewhere. How about some traps that push the player from far away? They could operate by blowing in a horizontal line, pushing the player (and possibly projectiles?) away. There could also be vertically aligned as well, making the player fall faster or slower.

Pushing away doesn't feel massively trappish (at least not most of the time) to me. However, what if the fans pulled you towards them instead? It'd be the same, except that if you're not careful you'll then take damage from getting dragged through a fan. Also, the only other thing I'd say is that the "pull" effect should be relatively narrow, and have a limited length (no dragging from across the entire cavern), and that it should be visible in some way so you know how to avoid / use it. (Also, they could make a nasty addition to Freefall missions, though I'd suggest not letting them appear at all until you start getting to higher platforming difficulty.) |

Right well, push/pull, doesn't matter which way to me. The important thing is the player's movement is getting messed with :) |
