Summary | 0008083: Convoy Mission
Description | "A stash has been found, but getting it out will prove difficult as it needs protecting. An old rail system has been repurposed to transport the stash out of there, but you will need to keep the enemies in the area off of it as it travels." This mission has a stash vulnerable to all attacks travelling along a (visible) rail. The stash travels at three quarters of the normal base speed of a character (so the player can keep up). The missions fails if the stash is destroyed, and enemies along the path will split their attention 50 / 50 between the player character and the stash. The mission area has both enemies and monster spawners to provide the threat. The stash also has a small relatively weak turret that it attacks enemies with; it isn't enough to deal with all the enemies, however, but just provides support. This mission has Building, Surface and Underground variants. Underground Convoy Missions have the stash travelling mostly upwards. Building and Surface Missions travel mostly horizontal; the main difference is that in a Surface Convoy Mission, the rail "hugs" the path of the ground much more closely than in a Building Convoy Missions (where the rail is generated to try and get the shortest path available, which means it'll also travel along ceilings, etc.) In all Missions, the rail cannot travel at more than a 45 degree angle up or down (so vertical travel acts like a staircase, zigzagging up.) Higher difficulties will add special components to the rail, and make them more frequent. These rail components are:- x Accelerator: When the stash travels over this piece of rail, it speeds forward for a short distance, forcing the player to either play catchup or try and clear the area ahead. x Path Switcher: Appears only in Building and Underground missions (not Surface). The path splits in two (to rejoin back into one path later one); the Path Switcher always starts set to send the stash into a dangerous area with more enemies than usual. Near to the Path Switcher will be a switch; using it changes the chosen path on the Path Switcher to the "normal" difficulty area. x Rail Obstructions: Items that explode (such as Mossy Barrels) are placed in the path of the rail. These obstructions also explode if the stash comes into contact with them, so they will need to be cleared ahead of the stash to avoid the damage. The missions also contain a unique item - the Turret Upgrade. This item is always spawned at a distance from the rail (so that there's a decision in going after it and leaving the stash for a short while); when picked up, it upgrades the stash's turret.
