Description | It'd be nice if you could feel an increase in progression between each tier. I was thinking that at tier 1 you'd only be able to apply 2 upgrades to a character. At tier 2, 4. At tier 5, 10 upgrades. Then, when you move to a new continent, your old character is the only one who has 10 upgrades. This means that with every tier-up, you're making a few more decisions about your specialization. Just an idea. | ||||

That could be really interesting; I'm not sure about that yet, but it's an interesting idea. |

I like the idea of having some sort of tier-related progression, but I would be worried about all the logistical issues. Is tier 1 content balanced around a character with 2 upgrades or a character with 10 upgrades? If it's the former, how do you challenge players at the start of a new continent? If it's the latter, how do you make sure that the game doesn't become too hard if your character dies early on in a continent? What happens if you make a new character and take him/her to an old continent? Can you give your character 10 upgrades? |

In terms of balance, each tier would be balanced for the number of upgrades it's supposed to have, so that's not a big deal. A new character on an old continent would not be able to upgrade any more than his native continent's tier since that would be an obvious exploit. Part of this is limited by not knowing what's in the plan for old continents -- I know something's planned (maybe something vague) so I can't really account for that. |
