Summary | 0007803: Look around - The 'Y' axis
Description | Personally, I kinda dislike how moving downward can easily turn into a bunch of leaps of fate. When I found out about the 'Look around' function ('G' key by default) I figured this was the solution. Alas it was not. So this would be an relatively easy fix I think. My suggestion is: When pressing the 'G' key, have the camera 'Center' on the cursor but only far enough where the player is never off screen. Somewhat like how it's implemented now, but more directional. This way the player can look in any direction s/he needs. For the keyboard only crowd. Holding G and then pressing any direction should move the camera appropriately. (Disable crouching so they don't fall through platforms/ladders of course!)

I'm pretty sure taking leaps of fate like that is how the game wants us to play. Risk factor and all that. But if the follow mouse option can let you look down, I don't see why other options shouldn't either. I like the way G is though, they could totally make it work with W and D for looking up and down. Or just hold W or D for a few seconds like some old games. Another Key for up or down that works exactly like G might be better. |
