Summary | 0007754: Allow Warps to teleport back to World Map
Description | Warp Gates should be allowed to teleport you directly to the World Map instead of making you teleport to the first chunk of an area and walk out. That short walk is largely trivial and seems needlessly time-consuming, especially if that first-chunk warp is underwater or in a cave far away from the stage edge. It genuinely breaks the flow of the game, where the "I'm done here, time to go home" turns into "I'm done here...time to teleport to the first chunk, then run out, then go home".

It would be a relatively simple change that would really speed things up and cut down on some of the "Drag" that was discussed on the forums. |

I do like this idea. However, would it work in reverse as well? (In other words, the start of the first chunk becomes just another warp gate, and you start in the warp zone)? Because that seems reasonable as well. |
I've thought about this idea before--somehow it seemed a lot more frivolous when I thought it to myself. One way to implement this would be to have a sub-door inside the warp gate room that takes you to the world map. Obviously it wouldn't look like a door. Perhaps just a red or yellow version of the current warp portal, with the help text of "Press E to return to world map". First time tutorial popup says something to the effect of "This gate, found inside all warp zones, will return you to the world map instantly! Be warned that you can't warp back here from the world map--you'll have to reenter the area and find a warp gate first if you want to come back." |
I like that idea, Khadgar. That way going INTO a place would still be dangerous, but getting home would still be quick and painless. |
Note that to make this not make Elusion Scrolls useless, you could change Warp Gates so that you cannot enter them if there are enemies aware of your presence. (I would say you cannot enter if there are enemies alive in the room at all, but that would result in tediously hunting down bats hiding in corners and such!) |
Okay, I'm inclined to say no to being unable to enter warp gates if enemies are aware of you. Elusion scrolls are still helpful since they're usable anywhere, where as you actually have to be standing on the warp gate to enter it (not an easy thing if being chased by a pile of angry enemy.) |
I said could. It was an option in case people thought it de-valued Elusion scrolls. Personally, I don't think it does. |
