Summary0007728: Shopping list as it currently is isn't as helpful as it could be
DescriptionWhile the shopping list does help you understand what you must do and where you might go it could still be improved a bit.

1. It could highlight map missions offering resources required to complete the list.

2. It could give an outline to regions that may spawn materials that are needed for your list if they are unlocked.

3. It could give a similar outline to regions where you can unlock a material on your list.

4. On the description window in the lower left hand corner, it could explain what you need to do in this region to further your progress towards completing the list.

I believe this would help make the game more user friendly for new players. Having to press Escape all the time to check what you need and where you might find it gets aggrivating, especially if you're trying to talk to other players about it (since you can't chat with the Escape menu up)

It would also help players identify the appropriate region to go to. Some people like me think the Forests look kinda like swampy areas and junkyards look similar to deserts. It may be my color deficiency talking, but everything looks so dreary it's hard for me to tell.

I kind of like the way it works now. Having it on the esc menu keeps it out of the way unless I wanna see what I need to get, and mousing over the ingredients gives me all I need to know about where to get them. Personally, I think adding any more information would just be confusing.

For example, the area/region highlighting thing. If you had it highlight every place that fufilled one requirement, what if your shopping list has a lot of stuff on it? Practically every zone and mission would be highlighted. If you had it hightlight only the stuff you mouseover, that's not really helpful either, as that information is already being displayed.

How about if in the escape menu you selected items for further help? Would that be acceptable? This way you don't need to use it if you don't want to, however if you're like me and can never figure out which chunks are what without manually going to each one and reading it it'll save me time.

I think hovering over an item in the shopping list should highlight the relevant missions & regions.

So if I'm at the world map, hit Esc, and hover the Sapphire in my shopping list, it would highlight the ice age areas and any missions that have sapphire rewards.

Interesting idea, but I like the way it is now. It lacks hand-holding, from the moment you start the game it treats the player as though they can reason through dilemmas themselves. Its also more immersive that way, as if a collapse of reality actually occurred, you'd be left not understanding much of anything going on and having to learn as you progress.

Anything else sort of feels a bit overbearing, more funneling the player into a set line of progression, they'd make less mistakes and explore less. This could be a nice extra option, but definitely not a main thing.

Acetyl, the whole point of the shopping list is it helps you set a goal and keep track of what you need and where you need to go to achieve the goal. It isn't forcing the player to do anything they aren't already trying to do as they MANUALLY put the items on there themselves. As far as the player making mistakes, frankly it's simply hard to tell by glance what areas are what types of areas. Mistakes because of this are not really the fault of the player as they are just confusing to begin with.
