Summary0007713: Floating ball & chain
DescriptionWhen cast, a ball of energy hangs from the players center of mass on a chain. It follows lose physics of how the player moves. It would mostly be behind the player when running, and would move down when you jump, and then swing up and over if you change direction. This would be an interesting tactical spell.

This would be a channeled spell, that is pretty cheap. You could maintain it for less than the average mana regeneration rate. When it damages and enemy, it takes more mana.

An interesting idea, but man would that be tough to use with the kinds of situations I always find myself in... Melee is a dangerous proposition at best as it is.

When reading your post, I was thinking of this more on the lines of how some Castlevania games let you wiggle the whip/chain around in the direction you point if you held the attack button. And it just follows the mouse. But your way could work too, maybe more awkward feeling at first(I found Hammerfight to feel really awkward).

I'm all for more melee, as that's what I usually use.

You should add the Castlevania whip idea as its own suggestion.

I thought the way they have it work in Terraria worked really well. It swings out in the direction you attack in when you first attack, and then just falls to the ground/obeys physics for as long as you keep the mouse button down.

The idea here is for a passive weapon that lets you use other abilities at the same time, albeit with reduced mana regen.

People were suggesting the "option" which would do a similar job, but for ranged attack. This would be a melee version that also requires some skill.

If it is going to be implemented, how long the range of this "melee" spell would be? If it's too long, it will just make things easier, not tactical. If too short, it will simply be like other melee spells. The balancing will be crucial.

Or it can be with very low damage such that it become just for fun.
