DescriptionI received an error repeated many times in my error log while playing. I did not notice any graphical errors or anything while playing however.

I got this error repeated many times, with only one small variance: On the first line :

Images/Monsters/GiantJellyfish/GiantJellyfishWalk/GiantJellyfishWalk_Dict.png,25

the number after the filename seemed to vary, ranging from 30 to 18 or so.

Was this boss part of a mission? That looks strikingly similar to another bug related to missions in 1.011.

I don't think it is related. It seems to be specific to giant jellyfish, I only got it while fighting them, not other bosses. The error messages are different as well.

If you do a verify steam cache and then update to the latest version that should solve it -- or a fresh install of the 1.000 installer if you have the non-steam version. Let us know if that doesn't do it!

Unfortunately, after updating to version 1.012, the error persisted. I did a steam Cache Integrity Check, which reset me to version 1.000, and then I updated again. I still kept getting the error. Just to be clear, I have the file in question, "GiantJellyfishWalk_Dict.png" and it looks like what I assume is what it is supposed to be, and the boss is displaying correctly in game. The only evidence of a problem is the errorlog.

I don't know if this information will be helpful, but I searched through my full log, and the first time this happened was 5/5/2012 10:57:22 PM, which i believe put it around the time of the Beta 1.010 release?

Hmm, for now I don't have enough info then, sorry. In for 1.012:

* Put in some improvements to the "Failed to find index!" message so that it now logs more data about what it failed to find, as well as not repeating itself a bunch of times (and thus causing massive lag) if it happens.


Hopefully that will help us track down what is happening, because I cannot duplicate the issue at all. The fact that you are not seeing graphical errors is particularly odd, though.

Oh, another thing that I realized. Before I did the Cache Integrity Check, there were two files in images/monsters/GiantAmoeba/GiantAmoebaWalk :

GiantAmoebaWalk_Dict.png and I believe GiantAmoebaWalk_Dict2.png

After I did the Integrity check and re-updated, I now notice there's only the first file. If it matters, windows reports that that the file size is :

Size: 1.52 MB (1,599,369 bytes)
Size on disk: 1.52 MB (1,601,536 bytes)

The image is 1024x1024x24 BPP, and has 11 sprites

That's... bizzare. The cache integrity check didn't do its job properly, somehow. You should have two files like you did before; the first with 16 images, and the second with 15. Both 1024x1024. I've verified that my steam installation does have this, so it's not like it just got left out of the steam version or something.

Might try another verification, I guess -- is this OSX or windows? The OSX verification has always seemed kind of iffy to me.

Well I checked the directory again.. and now both files are there! and the right number of images! And no more error messages! I think that I completely restarted steam and/or my computer between now and then... maybe somehow that magically fixed/replaced the files?

Well, it started happening again in version 1.016 . Both files are there, and both look normal: 16 images and 15 images... I'll try rebooting
