Summary | 0000075: Chameleon Golem | ||||
Description | While reading about Octopuses and Squid (like the Vampire Squid), I started thinking that some of their behavior and adaptations could be neat to mimic for a new kind of Golem. Octopuses are masters at blending into their surroundings, and so, somewhat like Zenith Chameleons, this new Golem would be capable of disguising itself like other things, but closer to its size. Since I don't envision this as a Human Capturable Golem, I would like to see it disguise itself as capturable structures like Advanced Factories, regular Golems, and Fabricators, etc. Capturable structures are often clustered and near wormholes so this would be a perfect place for this new golem to lie in wait to ambush the player or the AI. Detecting the difference between the real and fake capturable structures may necessitate higher level scouts or scout star ships but observant players may be able to tell the difference if they are careful. For example, if this golem was disguised as a gravity drill, but the units in the system did not have their speeds capped at 8 like usual, this would be a fun clue they could pick up on that something wasn't right. While we already have the Zenith Devourer, I would like to see a new Golem that is attracted by ships and star ships but which would disguise itself as structures the player is likely to want to capture and interact with while it was waiting for enough ships to come by. Ouch, I like it. |

"Whoops, you only used Mark I scouts, and now you've captured a worthless planet AND had your entire fleet destroyed! <Nelson Muntz>Hah hah!</Nelson Muntz>" I hate this idea. It's too much of a gotcha. It basically forces the player to either unlock high-mark scouts (mandatory unlocks are BAD) or double-check every single capturable (presumably by parking a force of cheap fighters next to it as bait to see if it wakes up and kills them); because the penalty for not doing so is that you might accidentally incur 20 AIP for no real gain. |
|
On one hand the player could use this to bait enemies away from important stuff, on the other hand enemies already chase after golems anyway. |

This is an interesting idea although I think people will be split on whether or not they like it as with the botnet golem. If implemented you may want to make it a separate minor faction like you did with the botnet. |
