Summary0007381: Bat form trivializes Journey to Perfection missions. Even without Storm Dash.
DescriptionBy using the -detectability% enchants you are able to view which direction AA missiles are coming in from and shooting them down is a joke. The general damage buff for the mission in general is what makes the missiles so easy to kill. Completely negates the the penalty for being in bat form.

Perhaps a buff to missile health?

If certain abilities to begin with are unavailable due to their exploitative nature, why not just prevent bat form as well?

It's true, we could remove the bat form and maybe we need to. I just thought it was a lot more interesting to have the bat form be an alternative option here. I think that simply redoing the terrain some on these might make for a better option and then we'll see how it feels.

It's only really an option for outdoor versions as well. I've managed to do an underground bat run as well but it wasn't exactly "easy" like having the whole sky to yourself is.

I agree. The fact that you have a wide open sky is what makes the outdoor missions easy. The cave ones are still do-able as a bat, but tit certainly isn't trivial. However, if wouldn't be "outdoors" if there was a ceiling, now would it?

Perhaps the best option is to have more flying enemies, that would never bother a player traveling along the ground, but would be absolute hell for a bat. Perhaps.... bats!

I thought about having a lot of monsters spawning if you were a bat... and actually that's where the homing missiles came from. Maybe there simply needs to be more homing missiles. ;)

I'm not entirely certain if more homing missiles would make it that much more difficult. Currently even without using Storm Dash you can out-fly most missiles since their flight time dies out after some ways.

Also, the options for using both forms of teleport still exist. As a tool for skillfully escaping a shot on ground they are useful, but once in the air it's just increased speed.

Aside from having missiles shoot smaller missiles which in turn fire lasers I don't see me having much difficulty in outdoor Perfections. =P

Oh jeez, I just found another exploit for you. If you use Greater Teleport without ever actually moving you retain the invincibility from level transitions.

I guess the balance is you want it to be possible as a bat, but not super easy. Perhaps adjusting the terrain generation to have not a ceiling, but at 1 or 2 points throughout, a chokepoint, where a ceiling spike extends down from the sky and forms a smaller, maybe a screen-high passageway, which would force even bats to have to get close to those nasty missile launchers at least once.

That being said, more missiles is definitely not the answer. If anything, more missiles would make it easier, as the explosions from missiles detonate other missiles. Not to mention that spawning 100s of fire at a time when the missiles explode causes hefty lag.

Yeah, those missiles cause lag. More of them is not a solution.

An alternate idea: the missiles only burst in to flame upon contact with the player or a wall. If they are killed by spells or any other means, they die like a normal enemy. This would alleviate the lag somewhat, and allow for the placement of more missile racks without a performance hit.

Perhaps this is not technically feasible, given what I've seen from all the "explode on death" entities so far.

The problem is still there. The fix for the original posting was just to remove Storm Dash, but several more things cause bat form to casually skip through an outdoors Journey to Perfection.
