Description | Don't quite know how these would look. Wouldn't be on the map or scouted. Hidden switches to open doors? All I know is that finding them is really, really fun. Just so long as nothing required is on the other side. | ||||

Only sometimes. It's an awesome game, don't get me wrong. But secrets should secrets, and puzzles should be puzzles. They do both very, very right, but sometimes a secret is the lynchpin in a puzzle and I find that annoying. That is a game that is all about the hidden buttons, I know, and it's really fun to find them when I feel like looking for them. All I'm saying for AVWW is, don't put the lock in an overlord castle on the other side of a secret door, almost anything else at all would be fair game. Edit: I think I may have come off a little harsh on Grimrock. It's a different game. Every situation is very custom tailored. There are usually nice hints as to where to find your secrets, and a reduced search space. It's quite clever and well done. Something like that can't work here, because of the infinite nature of everything. Maybe a few hand crafted rooms, but they would repeat eventually. Coming up with dynamic, infinite puzzles is really hard in a platforming game. Sudoku works, but even then, hand crafted works better than random. Edit 2: removed the snarky line against Grimrock. Isn't warranted or conducive to this topic. |
