Summary0007245: "Journey to Perfection" Missions are Frustrating on Continent 1
DescriptionSpecifically, I'm trying to do one of these on the first continent (got the mission using a guardian power scroll), but I'm finding it to be a huge pain.

Most of the levels I'm getting appear to have huge drops/cliffs. One which was generated seemed unbeatable for my character - there was a very, very steep cliff right at the start, and I don't have any sort of double jump (platforms wouldn't work, since there was no cliff face to stick them on. Maybe boxes? The other problem with large cliffs (aside from fall damage), is that I can't see enemies at the bottom. When I fall down and get instantly hit by a skelebot or ice leaper or something, that feels kind of cheap.

To start with, I would suggest making these levels a little bit more flat (maybe they could be tougher on later continents?)

Another way to solve this might be to let me take a few hits, but have it be a fixed number rather than tied to my HP, and don't provide a way to regenerate the health... 3-5 hits might be a good starting number, maybe?

These are meant to be tough -- but you also have to make good use of all the tools that are available to you. Specifically, you could use:

1. Featherfall, which you can find in the tutorial or elsewhere, to have no falling damage.

2. Ride the lightning, which can be unlocked on continent 1 (although IIRC this will get missiles fired at your face).

3. Double jump, which can also be found readily on continent 1 (random number generator willing).

4. Lesser teleport, again available on continent 1.

5. Lots and lots of crates or platforms to create a bridge across rather than going down into every hole in the terrain.

Etc. There's lots of options, but these are meant to be the toughest combat/traversal tests and kind of a nerve-wracking experience.

Hope that helps!

Not specifically related to falling, but I did have a lot of trouble with a JtP in the forest, where-in about 4 out of 5 attempts would have me start out in the middle of 3 or 4 espers and amoebas. It's basically an impossible non-start because the swarm of monsters immediately all fire and hit you. I hadn't noticed any "entrance invincibility" to help me out either. Or at least not enough of it to make a difference.

I've had a problem with some Perfection missions for different reasons.

Having too many monsters on the screen when first starting the mission is one reason, as the previous poster mentioned. You do get entrance invincibility (and invisibility), but when you have 5 or 6 enemies on the screen it doesn't help you much. On some levels you have to 're-roll' the mission a few times to get a good start. A minor issue at worst.

With 1.001 I'm having a lot more trouble with these missions with the new firebats (the ones that shoot fireballs). Especially in indoor and maze levels, the fireball can come from offscreen without warning and they're fast enough to make them difficult to dodge, especially when they're unexpected. After 4-5 tries I only managed to get halfway through a maze level. Without firebats I didn't have much trouble. Maybe with a shrink spell and speed enchant I might be able to finish it, but it still seems like a crapshoot.

Same thing for tier 5 (and maybe tier 4 as well?) missions which have eagles. At higher tiers their AI changes making them home in on the player. It's possible to dodge one or two, but they're fast enough that it's only a matter of time before they touch you.
