Summary0007240: If you enter a boss room via Warp, you can't enter the warp gate to leave
DescriptionIf you enter a boss room via the Warp gate, warping out is the only option to leave early. However, while standing on the warp gate to leave works, the boss "blocks" you from entering the warp as a door.

Wait, you can actually warp out still? I had assumed that the entire warp functionality had been blocked in boss rooms.

It only works if you warped in.

Really? all the cavern boss rooms have them.

Any particular reason why they aren't supposed to have warp gates?

Gah, I'm really addled today! Sorry, the warp gates are supposed to be there, but unusable until the boss is killed. You can't enter a boss room via a warp gate without having first walked into the room; so if you need to get out of the room, you need to walk back out the way you originally came in.

Bosses have always exerted a force that blocks warping, even back when it was warp potions.

I have, on multiple occasions, found the one entrance to a boss room untenable. Either all the bosses are on me, or there isn't any good terrain to get purchase on.

In these cases, I back out, and then warp into the room to check it out. Then, none of the doors work and only the warp gate does. It has always seemed to make sense to me in the past, and quite a nice tactical option.

You can still do that -- you just won't be able to escape back out of the room if you take that risky gambit. If you go into a boss room there's not much reason for the boss to be right on top of you the whole time most of the time; he ignores you until you move.

But for cases where the boss is literally trapped right where the main entrance is, it may be time to consider investing in teleport or just going a different way. ;)

Well, mostly it was in battles with faeries where things weren't going all that great ;)

They tend to clump up and can kill very quickly. I have found that teleporting into the darkness in a panic can have a negative impact on my glyph bearers.

For 1.002:

* Fixed bug where it was possible to warp out of a boss chunk (with the boss still alive) by standing in front of the warp gate (it was already preventing actual entrance into the warp gate).

Does this mean you can still warp in? And if so, if you do, can you still leave? Is the exit door open if you do that? I was under the impression you had to leave the way you came in, that's how it works now if you have two entrances to a boss room, I think.

- You can still warp in.

- You can still walk out the front door.

- You can't warp out of the warp gate that you just warped in through, though, so careful not to trap yourself.

Gotcha. I always thought that if there was also a cave opening to a boss room, you couldn't use it if you came in the door, and vice versa.

The way boss room doors work (as of a few months ago, so not since forever) is that you can exit a boss room to any adjacent room you've already been in. But you can't exit it any other way, or go to any room you've not been in before.

So if you came in through a side passage then you can use that to get back out, but not the main door, etc. Before you can warp in you will have had to have entered the boss room from some other entrance anyhow, so that would be the one you'd use to get back out.
