Summary0007119: Storm isn't hard enough
DescriptionI just entered a storm area to see how much harder the fighting would be. It wasn't that much more challenging. I think maybe it needs a boost to make it more worthwhile to push back the storms.

Monsters get a 50% attack boost at the moment, I think. Perhaps it needs to be more in terms of their health as well as their damage. Thoughts?

Was doing windbreaks and decided monsters should just be avoided. I didn't even bother with my stonelegs, I just hauled through the realm on storm dash and double jump to avoid almost everything.

To me it's more a matter of jump timing then combat... but then I don't usually fight in storms, I'm just there to drop off windbreaks.

On The Chosen One windstorms are somewhat of a nightmare already, so i'm reticent to suggest anything that makes them harder, but instead of increasing health how about increasing their refire rate and other stats, essentially make windstorms up you a difficulty level or so (except health).

Yeah I think what makes the most sense is that in windstorms monsters should just be higher tier. That's something that's easy for the player to grasp -- it conveys all the info in one easy number. I'm not sure if it should be one or two tiers. Perhaps it should be +2 tiers for low difficulty levels and +1 tier higher for high difficulty levels (since high difficulty levels are hard enough).

That's a good point -- we have code in there that scales monsters all the way to tier 10 if need be for deep caverns, so for windstorms this would be no problem. Tying this into the existing tiers system makes a lot more sense than just having random other buffs, really, in the first place.

Of course, those random other buffs were coming around from before we had tiers, so we just hadn't thought about it since then. Terraziel, that's going to wind up buffing their health as well as their other stats, unfortunately, though. Thoughts on that?

I was thinking that basically anything below hero could be +1 tier, and then hero and above would be +2 tiers like Bluddy was saying. Nice and tightly integrated with everything else.

Well the main concern is how difficult it makes Wind shelter missions they are already a bit of an exercise in dodging bosses, what the change will do is limit the number of errors you get.

We can but see, do it and I shall just complain if it is an issue.

Thanks!

* Since the earliest alphas of the game, windstorms have buffed monster attack power by 50%. That was a little bit underwhelming of a barrier, however.
** Now, instead of the 50% attack boost, they instead get tier boosts. On combat difficulties less than hero, it's a +1 tier boost. On combat difficulties of hero or greater, it's a +2 boost. This gives them buffs across the board, making them a lot more fearsome.
** If it turns out that this makes the windshelter missions too difficult, then we may want to consider making them have microbosses rather than minibosses that you have to slip past.
