Summary | 0006596: Hacking when existing aggrevation exceeds 810,000 causes AI War to hang
Description | While experimenting with the new Hacking mechanic, I got the hacking antagonism up to 810,000. I was able to hack one more ARS at that level. However, after that, the first spawn that would occur in reaction to any hacking activity (ARS SDHack, K-raid, or SuperTerminal usage) causes the game to hang. One processor was pegged at 100%, but the game did not respond to any input. After leaving it in this state for 1 hour, I was forced to terminate the process in order to regrain control of the system. Attached is a save one spawn cycle before the issue occurs. There is an active SDHacker in the Tejat system (Middle of the galaxy map). Just load the game and wait several seconds for the next spawn cycle.

Probably trying to spawn something like a million raid starships or something. The recent changes to how aggressive the multipliers work should help with this, though if aggrevation can get that high, there might still be some possibility for overflow or at least absurdly large (like, eat your memory or CPU) spawns. What are the datatypes involved again? (int, long, etc) |

For 5.030: * Added a sanity check preventing QueueAnotherSpawnAfterThisOne wild-rolls from causing an theoretically infinite loop on spawns with a very high number of rolls. This probably wasn't happening, but it was probably happening enough to bog things down if you hacked all 5 Advanced Research Stations or whatever. It was probably more due to the multiplicative strength stuff (that's already been changed for 5.030), but better safe than sorry, thanks :) |
