Summary | 0006577: Nest Monster
Description | Having started a game of Diablo 2 up yesterday, it occured to me that AVWW has no equivalent of Foul Nests. If you haven't played it recently or at all, Foul Nests are static, relatively high health monsters that instead of attacking directly spawn a set monster type every so often. How this differs from the monster spawners in AVWW is that the Nest IS a monster rather than just a source of them. So for AVWW, I see the Nest Monster as the magical\organic equivalent of crashed landspeeders, one per chunk, It should be located somewhere near the middle\bottom middle of the map each time (so that you have to try and get to it) and should spawn a new type of enemy every so often. For the spawned enemy you have a couple of behaviour options, make it like mini-fairies and just have them path towards the player, or, and I prefer this option, allow the enemy to spawn anywhere in the chunk, so that what the nest is doing is constantly making it harder to explore the chunk, without it just seeming like a direct attack. For the second choice, the enemy should spawn more and/or closer as you near the nest, to represent it defending itself. A corollary to this, is that you could make a mission from it, taking out the creature that is creating the nests, sort of an adventure deep in to a cave to find the source. You'll note i have been pretty vague about specifics, but that's because the theme can apply to anything really. it could be organic (insect nests), magical (portals\altars\gateways) or tech (Self replicating robots)
