Summary | 0006544: Helper Resource Overflow
Description | During the attached game, one of the players capped out their crystal and it began automatically overflowing to the other players as expected. I was in the game as a helper and was given a portion of the resources to my actual resource pool. Helpers aren't able to give the resources away and as a result the resources given to me, around 50k crystal were simply gone. On a related note, also using helper mode, our group has been playing pairs using a shared 2 planet start instead of 2 individuals so we can share our fleets with more flexibility. The feature is implemented extremely well however with only 2 people in the game sharing a single resource pool, the total resource cap is only 1 million of each resource. This isn't a big deal except during the building phase of the first Spire City during the Spire missions. As an alternative to preventing overflow to the helper player, re-enabling their resource pool for trading into and out of will allow 2 players playing a single set of planets to have the resource cap scale up like normal as if they were playing separately. Everything else in the game properly scales for a multiple planet starts why not allow the resource cap to be increased as well? If it is a programming limit at 1 million which would be difficult to deal with, allowing the helper pool to be used at least would allow more flexibility for use of the new helper system. After a number of games using the helper system in this manner, this is the only significant drawback to playing together in this manner.

For 5.030: * Fixed a bug where helper players were getting the overflow from other players resources income-past-cap. ** The resources were basically being lost since helpers cannot gift resources, which is intentional as otherwise this overflow case would represent an in-game bonus from having slots devoted to "helper", which would invalidate the assumption that the game can be balanced as if they weren't there and thus the AI's strength doesn't have to go up due to the presence of helpers, etc. ** Along with this: apparently in the past overflow was going to ALL human player slots, even those that had never had any players in them, causing the resources to be split more ways than necessary in MP games with fewer than 8 human players. Fixed now. Thanks :) |
