Summary | 0006537: Enemy spell idea - sniper shot
Description | This attack would telegraph itself by first drawing a harmless laser line towards where it is aimed, followed half a second or so later by a small, very quick, piercing shot along that line. The aiming laser gives you time to react. I could see this as an attack for skelebot snipers, instead of their current slow moving fireball that doesn't really put me in mind of a sniper at all.

I like this mechanic. To make it easier to dodge, I recommend a laser sight, followed by a crosshair crawling towards you along that line. The crosshair could change from green to yellow to red perhaps over a few seconds. You have to move out of the way quickly (moving a little doesn't do much). Move a lot, and the shot will be canceled. Once the crosshair turns red though, it's engaged, so that moving at that point will still fire where you were a second ago. If you manage to move out of the way exactly at the right time, the shot could take out the critter behind you (or perhaps the one moving right under the cursor). |

I've seen that sort of mechanic in other games, but it loses a bit of the simplicity of the more basic effect. Bear in mind you could be dealing with two or three of these at once. If anything, just brighten the beam as it gets closer to firing, but crosshairs crawling all over the screen will get too confusing to deal with with your twitch reflexes. |
