Summary0006422: Can see list of enemy cloaked ships on your planet
DescriptionNot sure if this is intential or not via the wiki -- but seems broken to me. Knowing there are cloaked ships is enough, knowing the types/quantities doesn't seem right.

I find that intel rather important as it effects exactly what you send to deal with the ships, and unless it is completely invisable, it not unreasonable that your scouts/command station/whatever could tell you what ships where there Designs of a lot of the ships are/were used by both the humans and the AI, it not impossible that they could say that there is a ship of type x somewhere nearby, but we don't know exactly.

It is a very nice piece of intel, but it is inconsistent with previous behavior, and currently documented behavior.

Either this change needs to be explicitly accepted and documentation updated, or this should be fixed.

I'm on the fence about which way to go though.

What previous behavior? It's been that way since I started playing, and I'm getting close to a year now.

Since it requires scouts to get this information, I'm perfectly fine with it. I could see two levels of scouting, with maybe only Scout Starships showing actual cloaked units, while Scout fleet ships show only number of cloaked units. Otherwise it is a pretty useful thing specifically for new players. I'm looking at you Stealthed Guard Post!

@Hearteater
Yes, the cloaked ship count icon did not count ship types back in the 3.0 days.

But if do keep this behaviour, and cloaked ships do reveal their type and number, why bother consolidating them? Cloaked and uncloaked ships should NOT be consolidated together. But why one huge list of cloaked ships instead of one cloaked icon per ship type? (A new way to show total number of enemy cloaked ships would need to be added, though)

To give you an idea of what I am talking about, think about something like one icon would be for cloaked remains re-builders, another would be for cloaked eye-bots (all Mks), etc. These would be different groupings than the uncloaked ones. Maybe the icon could be the "cloaked circle" icon with the ship type icon (possibly translucent) overlayed on top of it. Or the other way around. This would make it easy to see whether the cloaked ships are military or not.
Not sure whether these icons should be at the end of the list like they are now, or moved up next to their uncloaked counts. (It would be nice if I had image editing experience, so I could show you what I am thinking in my head)
The total number of hostile cloaked ships (if any) could be added to a count in the top left, like other counts currently do.

Also, if we go with this change, my tip of the day will need to be updated.

OK, why not, here is a cruddy ascii diagram until I can get a good screenshot to work with later on.
For the sake of conciseness, I am only including enemy ships in my "side display" mockups.

Key:
O the cloaked ship icon (the empty circle)
P the symbol used for space planes
B the symbol used for spire stealth battleships
E the symbol used for engineers
OX the symbol X overlayed on top of the cloaked ship icon

So, you are on a system with scout intel, and there are 3 cloaked space planes Mk. I, 2 cloaked space planes Mk. II, 1 spire stealth battlship, 2 uncloaked Mk. II engineers, and 2 cloaked Mk. III engineers

Right now, that would be represented as

-----
E
2
-----
O
7
-----

with everything cloaked lumped together if you hover over the cloaked ship icon.

Let's say you reveal one Mk. III engineer and one space plane Mk. I
Now it would be currently

-----
P
1
-----
E
3
-----
O
5
-----

again with the same hover over thing.

What I am proposing will change it to be like this.

In the first case

-----
E
2
-----
OP
5
-----
OB
1
-----
OE
2
-----

and the second case

-----
P
1
-----
E
3
-----
OP
4
-----
OB
1
-----
OE
1
-----

Notice that the still cloaked ships are still at the bottom. That can be changed.
But the beauty of this technique is that you can now see that there are hostile military ships, and what they are, without digging through a long tooltip.
No new information is revealed, but it is now in a nicer form.
One downside is that in the very worst (but very rare) case, the number of icons in the side list could be doubled.

In my idea, the total number of cloaked ships (the old icon's count) would be in the top left text area. Like "N hostile cloaked ships on this planet" or something.

Again, this is only if the current "you can tell what the current cloaked ship types are" change is here to stay.

It would be easier to do this:
-------
P
3+6
-------
so you don't have multiple entries for cloaked and non-cloaked.

@Hearteater

Oh, that solves the one possible worst case scenario of my idea.

OK, lets go with that variant.

Post it as a separate suggestion?
