Summary | 0006342: Post 1.0 Possible Intro
Description | One of the things that's missing in the game is the ability to see how much the world was scrambled up when the cataclysm happened. I think it'll be pretty easy to make an intro sequence that really gives an idea of the devastation instead of the scrolling text: 1. Choose a random PC from a certain time period. 2. Generate a map with only that PC's time period. 3. Allow the player to roam free. How cool would it be to have the abandoned town with many NPCs walking about and talking to you? The player can walk around the world, hunt a few basic creatures specific to the time period. Let the player try stuff on his own without explaining them -- it's pretty basic without the extra missions etc. 4. At a certain point, the cataclysm happens. The screen blinks to full brightness and darkness. Use the weather system to have night change to day, clouds change to sun really really quickly over and over. 5. The player dies. 6. Now the player chooses an ice age PC, etc. The map is now very different, which really shows the effect of the cataclysm. An alternative is to have the intro PC always be an ice age PC and the player doesn't die but is chosen by the Illari to be a glyphbearer. The advantage of the first method is that the intro is random, and can happen in any time period.

I actually really like how the current intro text suggests that you missed the cataclysm because you were too busy hiding from the cold. |
