Summary | 0006326: NPCs in settlements
Description | Since we now have all these wonderful buildings in our settlements, I think NPCs could spend some time in them. Currently you can interact with NPCs through glyph transfer and listening to them. Glyph transfer could be done more easily in the planning screen where you can see their stats anyway. Conversations can be difficult when there are a dozen people running past. -Add glyph transfers to planning/residents screen -Have a minimum number of NPCs out exercising that you can talk to. Maybe 4 or 5. -Randomly choose which residents are out when you enter a settlement.

This would make it so that you can't actually do glyph transfer when you wanted, and it makes it really difficult to do other sorts of interactions as-needed, too. We'd have to build a whole new subsystem for remotely speaking to people, which feels awkward and would eat up dev time to do something that already happens. But having fewer people out at night or something could be interesting... |
@x4000 Why would it stop you doing glyph transfer when you wanted? It would be on the planning screen. Like taking out a pokemon from the pc box. |
Because glyph transfer works by standing near to someone and using the scroll. To change that to also sometimes work via menu means that we then have to build two ways to do the same thing. And then any other interactions with NPCs that we might have in the future, we then have to build two ways to do _those_, too. I much prefer having one way to do things whenever possible. |
Instead of having to have two ways of all the different ways of interacting with NPCs, couldn't you just develop one new way to call NPCs out of their places of work / homes? Although I'd only be in favour of you doing that if it was REALLY trivial. |
THAT's a really good point. And that would solve all of this really neatly and indeed trivially. Sideways thinking for the win! |
