Description | Corresponding thread: http://www.arcengames.com/forums/index.php/topic,9787.30.html Currently we can obtain a self-sustaining number of Zenith viral shredders from zenith caches scattered throughout the galaxy. This largely obsoletes their value as an initial unlock, over other ships. For example, I crack open one mark-IV cache, resulting in AIP increase of 20, then I crack open one of mark-III for +15 AIP. I save at least 6000 knowledge and will never worry about rebuilding shredders unlike all of the other ships I got from the boxes. Suggestions from the thread are: - Increase the cap for shredders if you have unlocked them (previously posted in mantis with no change http://www.arcengames.com/mantisbt/view.php?id=3805). - Remove viral shredders. - In addition, increase other ships gained to compensate for shredder loss. - In addition, decrease AIP increase for cracking one open to compensate for shredder loss. | ||||

i have found it very difficult to maintain caps on shredders since the 5.0 changes actually. with the devourer golem on especially there are many thing that will just eat them. main difficulty is that their targeting logic as a melee unit doesnt factor in range to target. so the dont "feed" effectively unless micromanaged. this is also a significant problem with vampire and vorticular cutlass. that they tend to prefer best damage targets farther away and wander over enemy blobs of ships they could have eaten on the way and die because of it. |

motai has a good point. Melee ships probably need a auto-targetting adjustment. Thanks to their 0 range, proximity is MUCH more important to them, and thus they should weight it much more heavily than non-melee ship types do. |

Oh, and I still think the viral shredder replication was nerfed a bit too hard. If it can be buffed [i]a little[/i], then I would fully support removing them from the caches, with the suggested changes to the caches already mentioned. |
