Summary | 0005543: tutorial should mention EP and unlocks
Description | Came back to AVWW after a couple of months, started a new game. Went through the tutorial to see what had been added (like apparently a tutorial). Maybe I just missed it, but I don't remember EP or unlocks being mentioned in the tutorial. So if I saw a person to rescue, I rescued them. Or got a wind shelter going. I've got lots of wind shelters. And I went up in level for it. I tried to update my spells after I ``leveled up'', but the required ingredients were not unlocked on this continent. I guessed the next level of spells were for the next continent (where they would be unlocked, right?). So now my continent is seriously threatened and I don't have any lvl 2 spells or equipment. Right now I'm enjoying the challenge of somehow pulling it off, but back when I thought this was how the game was meant to be (about a minute of fire touch to destroy a monster nest, monsters pretty much unstoppable, et c.) I was about ready to put the game down for good. Good thing I checked the wiki. I realize you probably were going to put it in anyway, but I wanted to point out how important it can be to someone new to the game, since I had such a relevant experience.

Cheers, thanks for the reminder -- we're still in the process of adding EP-related stuff, and so that's really very much a work in progress sort of thing for the moment. We do need to make sure and add some more stuff along those very lines, though. |

Thinking about this more led to the following post: http://www.arcengames.com/forums/index.php/topic,9751.0.html Would definitely be interested in hearing your thoughts there (or here) as well. |

I can't seem to create a forum account (e-mail to me not sent?), so I'll comment here. One thing that would help greatly would be if the world log reported A) the amount of EP gained B) the reason Glyph-bearer death is an obvious reason, but completing a mission is not. For example ``While you were rescuing Bertie Wooster, Quaghop the Mercotian has furthered his plans to destroy the world by 73 EP.'' would help the player understand what is going on. Actually, I'm not sure why (in story terms) EP increases when I rescue someone or set up a wind shelter. A descriptive log entry would help. Come to think of it, a similarly more descriptive log entry including reason might make AIP more intelligible in AI Wars. Something like ``The AI has become 15 AIP more concerned about the rising human menace because of the destruction of the command center.'' might help new players to understand that this is a BAD thing. |
