Summary | 0005488: Make vertical parallax relative to character, not ground level
Description | For horizontal paralax, this is roughly equivilent (edge of map cases - separate issue) When jumping, it feels a bit off to have the paralax adjust only when the game pans the view -- so you get parallax movement until the view stops shifting, then the paralax stops, even though you are still in motion. For some reason I notice this more than the parallax stoppign when you reach the edge of the map, probably because it happens less frequently.

I'm really not sure I agree with this one. The perspective never changes when the camera doesn't move. Just because one object in the view of the camera (the character) moves, I can't see why that should make the supposed viewpoint of the camera change... |
|
I think I notice it because horizontal movement almost always (except at the map edges) causes the cameraa to move. Indoors, there isn't parallax (or at least not much through the windows). Outdoors, the height constraint causes the camera to stop at the top/bottom edges -- expected. But this creates multiple movements : (Running from memory, applogize if the details aren't correct) Jump -- background isn't moving yet, but character is Still jumping -- background is moving, along with character [depending on height Near top of jump -- background stops moving, character is still moving ... and the opposite on the way down I'm been known to be sensitive to this kind of thing, so it's probably not that important. I originally looked at is as 'vertical parallax is too high' -- but after bouncing around a bit changed it to this request. Maybe dampening the vertical parallax would help as well. But again, it's minor. |
|
Gotcha. In all cases, this is just the camera moving or not moving, though -- perhaps a way to tune the vertical parallax might be in order, we'll see. But since it's not a big deal to you, it's something for later. |

With other changes in the recent releases, plus in 0.581, I think this one is handled. Thanks! |
