| Description | I've never liked the 'random draw' mechanic for player's characters -- I much prefer to design the character I want to play. The mechanic AVWW has now is better than a random roll since you get to choose from a set, but still not something I'm keen on. | ||||

I think the biggest drawback to something like this pre 1.0 is time. Seems like this would be pretty significant in terms of development time. |

Doesn't seem to me like the player's stats have THAT much impact, and being limited to certain PCs makes it seem like you're really jumping into existing people's bodies, so I like it the way it is. |

It's not that bad in terms of development time, but being able to point buy characters at the start of a game in particular is something that I really hate. You're being asked to make choices about your character that you don't really understand yet at that point in the game. As Bluddy says, the individual stat variance is thus fairly slight, although the last release makes it a little more significant (but still not that big a deal). The character customization that you're looking for is intended to come about through your chosen inventory and unlocks and such, and later through enchants that you choose, rather than through innate stats. |
