Summary | 0005134: Resistances Shown Unintuitively
Description | I find both the text and the infographic shown on enemies to be somewhat confusing. Currently a negative number (such as -99 Water Resistance) or a downwards arrow indicates the target is resistant to the indicated damage type, while an upwards arrow or positive number means the target is vulnerable to that damage. I think it might be more intuitive the other way around for the text at least. Perhaps resistance should be shown strictly as an integer and then shown as XX Water Resistance or XX Water Vulnerability. Maybe with "Resistance" and "Vulnerability" color-coded?

The popup when paused already says "Air: 40% Extra Weakness" for Skelebots. Or were you referring to another text somewhere? |
Yes, thats the one Toll. I do find that confusing, especially when put side-by-side with other resistances. Is 40% Extra Weakness to Air the same as -40 Air Resistance? I automatically want to associate *negative* resistance to be the same thing as "extra weakness" or vulnerability. Similiar problem with the infographics shown under enemy health bars. My brain wants to assume that they're telling me about that enemy's inherent traits (such as resistance) where an up-arrow = high resistance, down-arrow = weak to that attack type. As is, its the other way around and they instead infer what element does MORE damage to that enemy (up-arrow = element does more damage = weakness, down-arrows = element does less damage = high resistance). I know I'm sounding nitpicky, but I feel like the current system is counter-intuitive and I'm quickly running out of other things to pick at :p |
Where are you seeing -40 Air Resistance? That's the big question. |
Oh, its on the mouse-over tooltip when the game is paused. Posted a screenshot now! EDIT: posted a 2nd screenshot of a giant skelebot that I think best illustrates the point. It has 40% Extra Weakness to Air, and -50 Resistance to Entropy. I could suppose from that information that it is weak to air, but why is the resistance number negative? Is it weak to Entropy too? Separately, if I just look at the infographics (that little lightning bolt and that purple... thingamajig), I would presume it is telling me about the inherent resistances the skelebot possesses and *not* about the amount of damage those attacks do against it. So I would arrive at the opposite conclusion of what is true. To wit: Lightning Bolt (Air) + Up Pointing Arrow = Enemy Shrugs Off Air Attacks (Resistant) Purple Blob Thing (Entropy) + Down Pointing Arrow = Enemy Hates Thermodynamics (Weakness) |
Ah. Could it be as simple as removing the - in front? Lightning espers should be 99% resistant to Air and Light, after all, and when I check a water esper it says "-99% Resistance" to both Light and Water. |
Well... yeah, actually Toll. Why you gotta cut me so bad with Occam's Razor :( |
Thanks! * Previously, the game was accidentally showing -X% Resistance for monsters that were resistant to an element. Now it shows X% Resistance, which is actually correct. |
