Summary0004611: Character selection does not always list cold resistance.
DescriptionHaving just perished under the feet of a herd of rhinos, I was browsing the selection of hapless wanderers to choose my next hero and I noticed that none of them appear to feel any kind of chill despite the general dress code being rather light on snow gear.

I suspect this may have something to do with the new glyphbearer spawning in a settlement that isn't covered in snow, but it's probably still something worth noting at character selection time.

Potentially... but there are a variety of effects that the characters might be weak to (heat, for instance). It only notes the ones that have any relevance where they are actually spawning.

As an aside, I've never really understood what that expression of cold damage was a percentage of, exactly. Maximum possible cold damage? What is maximum possible cold damage? And why is taking less than maximum possible cold damage (if that's what it is) always considered bad? And why, if that's what it is, do individuals who take 0% cold damage never tell me that? Is that the threshold for it being considered a good stat, 0%? If I select a character without a cold suit by default, do I want to aim for the lowest cold damage value I can? Does it even really matter? Aren't I going to be kitting them out with a cold suit either way? Should it not, in fact, simply indicate (in green) whether a character is naturally resistant to cold; or (in red) not naturally resistant to cold?

Sorry, I got stuck in a bit of a question spiral there. As you were.

It's really not a percentage in a lot of respects, and I might need to change that. It's simply warning you that characters are going to be taking damage once per second in the area you're spawning them in if that's the case. Though that never happens now, technically, since settlements no longer have you take damage at all. I might just remove the stat entirely, because I don't really want to clutter up that screen.

Perhaps, but it's useful information to have when choosing a character given that you're almost certain to be adventuring in a variety of climates. Also, it isn't really clear which settlement you're going to spawn in, and therefore which set of resistances you're going to be seeing at selection time.

Maybe a more detailed set of stats in a mouseover or something would work for this. Temperature resistance is definitely less important than the primary stats, but still important enough to look at.

That's true, detailed stats on mouseover might be the ticket. Note that literally anybody not from the ice age time period (well, robots excepting) is going to take some substantial damage in the cold. And everybody but robots takes substantial damage in the heat. That's why I don't see this as too much of a factor, honestly.

Two lines would cover it then, right?

Yeah, I agree. I'm mostly just after consistency -- it would be nice to have it made explicit at selection time, but I think never showing it is better than sometimes showing it now that it doesn't have an immediate effect upon spawning.
