Summary0004341: Friendly Creatures/Monsters/Animals
DescriptionI was thinking it would be interesting if you could occasionally come across chunks that instead of the usual enemies include friendly (peaceful) animals that you can interact with in a different way.

Perhaps hunt them for food if your settlement is desperate for it, maybe there could be a bonus to a meat based diet rather than just having wheat.

You could attempt to catch and train them maybe as some kind of pet system where they followed you on the map and acted as an ally. Npcs could be assigned "pets" too which gives them a boost/makes their jobs easier. (depending on the pet)

On the other hand you could integrate friendly creatures into all chunks so that they're mixed in with the enemies.

Given that the world is inherently hostile, I'm not sure that having friendly beasts mixed in with monsters is a great idea. On the other hand, maybe monsters near friendly Ilari stones can be tamed or something. Perhaps they can even help fight rampaging monster who are attacking or something.

I find the idea of rhinos (possibly in custom coldsuits) running around my settlements and getting stuck in corners strangely appealing.

Well even the most hostile of worlds surely would have at least some non hostile creatures. (It's not like Environ is supposed to be Hell world) Plus I imagine any group of people starting up a civilization would attempt to tame and make use of animals in the area to help them with jobs and tasks in every day life.

Sure, but I'd expect the nasties in a level 23 snowstorm to already have eaten all the friendly wildlife. Maybe friendly beasts should show up in the same kinds of places as NPCs.

That might be an idea.

Or there could be some kind of Wildlife Springs chunk where non hostile creatures gather together around a watering hole. (I know water in this game is acidic but you get the picture)

Although on the other hand, just because an animal is non hostile to you....doesn't necessarily have to mean it can't take care of itself in battle. It might not all be bunnies and ponies were talking about here.

Actually, I think I'd be quite nice to run into something that doesn't try to kill you. It adds variety. Restricting them to safe places seems like a good idea, and might actually reinforce the feeling of those places being safe-havens. Not sure if they need to do anything else besides adding flavor to the world though.

In a way there are already friendly creatures, the illari stone.

Wouldn't it be interesting if there was some way to add hostile enemies as settlers? (only settlers, not playables)

I think it'd be nice to be able to 'clean out' lower level areas to make them peaceful - either by a strategic option (but like a big one, that takes 1000+ TU) or by cleaning out all the monster spawners (and houses too? might be a bit much).

Then the music would swap to a more peaceful version, and critters instead of monsters would appear... birds, bunnies etc..

Edit : Though that definitely sounds like a V2.0 or V3.0 kind of addition..

Like Armanant's idea, too.

Quite old from the product version at the top, but I'd love to see something like Armanant's idea. Though we'd need to make sure it was in a windless area, of course.
