Summary | 0000358: Touchpad mouse zooming no longer works
Description | I have not been able to use my touchpad mouse to zoom in/out since 3.700 released. This worked pre-Unity, but since then seems to be disabled. The problem is appearing on an acer laptop with 2 forms of 'scroll wheel'- a touch-sensitive side-bar, or zoom based on moving fingers towards/away from each other. Both worked pre-3.700

Well, bear in mind it's two completely different engines. Is your touchpad scrollwheel able to work in Unity in screens with scrollbars? Try clicking into a screen with a scrollbar, and then scrolling up and down, if you're not sure -- those panels don't scroll from any scrollwheel unless they have focus. All that said, there have been several known issues with Unity and certain scrollwheels over the last few years, so it might simply not work. Though usually trackpads were the ones working most reliably, from what I can see on google. So I'm not sure what we can do here. The reason for my asking if it works in the scrolling panels is because the GUI and the actual game use two different input methods -- and if the GUI scrolling works for you, I can potentially redirect that to also use it in the game, bypassing whatever is wrong with the direct input method. If even the GUI scrolling doesn't work for you, then I'm not sure there's anything that can be done until Unity issues a fix for it. Knowing the exact model of laptop would be helpful so that I can tell them if that's what turns out to be the case. Thanks for the report! |

I verified that the mouse scrolling does work in other scrollable menus - it worked fine on the AI Options screen. Exact model of the laptop is Acer Aspire 5739G. Thanks for the quick response! |

Wonderful news! That probably means I can get it to work for you in-game, too, then. I'll let you know how it goes! |

* A new style of mouse scrollwheel handling has been put in place, which should hopefully resolve the troubles with some players being unable to use certain input devices. |
