Summary | 0000343: Increase effective range for rebuilder and cleanup drones to match V1 engineers
Description | Rebuilder and cleanup drones used to teleport. Cleanup drones are now much more suseptable to hostile fire as they move in to cleanup. Previously they could be parked in the boonies and would teleport in to cleanup then out again to heal. for the rebuilders, an effective range increase would be nice to speed their operations up.

Looking at the code, I see that the range for rebuilders and cleanup drones is 10,000. Whereas the range for mark I engineers is only 8,000. Am I missing something, or is this not matching what you're observing? |
Engineers love to close to closerange anyway... ive noted this often when they are in frd. Also, what is the use of cleanup drones nowadays? Without AI turrets.... I suppose mines - does the ai still use enough of those to make cleaning an issue? |
Hmm, not sure on the range closing in FRD. Regarding the cleanup drones, it's just mines at the moment. So they are of limited use, but very useful when they are useful. Which, really, is by design. Cleaning up AI turrets was annoying! |
well, the alternative fix wouldve been to not give the AI rebuilder drones, to have AI remains automatically destroy themselves anyway, etc etc etc. Instead, you decided to remove AI turrets alltogether! Certainly not the /easiest/ path ive seen taken, especially with the plans to replace them with guardians.. but I suppose it is a solution. (for reference, it seemed in the beginning that the major use for cleanup drones was cleaning up perma-mines.. the most loved mines of all. well, those too are gone.. and cleanup drones just dont seem useful anymore.) |
Well, the removal of the AI turrets had nothing to do with this, really -- this was just a random perq. |
The rebuilder drones will close to about 3/4 of a Mk1 FF diameter to make repairs. Much closer than the Mk1 or Mk2 engies build/repair stuff. I have noticed that the Mk2 engineers seem to hang 2x farther out to repair than the Mk1 engies. Concerning the Cleanup drones I was used to sending them off to the edge of the map - far out of detector/pursuit range to heal, they would blink in to remove remains then blink back out before dieing. Now they seem to get right in the middle of the fight and get wacked. Again I observe them closing in closer than the Mk1 engies to clear debris. |
It sounds like just a bug in the logic for closing the distance to the target for both engineers and cleanup drones. Good catch! |
Some additional obsevations on the rebuilder drones closing. ver719 Rebuilders do not repair while moving, they pick a target like a minefield, move to the targets center, bounce out to a clear spot and then start to repair. Remindes me of when forts used to close to zero distance way back when. |
This was done a while back, apparently. It's now 10k where the mark I engineers are 8k. |
