Summary0000325: Odd "skipping" behaviour on AI units on "undiscovered" worlds
DescriptionIt would appear that AI units on worlds that are yet to be scouted (but visible due to no fog of war selected) exhibit a skipping behaviour as if you were experience graphical lag, but aren't. I will enclose a link to a video displaying this behaviour as soon as it is rendered and uploaded.

This is the expected behavior, actually. It was also present in the post-3.120 betas. It's actually a feature, not a bug: these worlds get half as many move events and processing events, which helps enormously with the performance in large games. It's only something even visible to players when they play with no fog of war on, but we consider that a less important mode.

I can already hear the suggestion coming to make it not have this skipping behavior on the planet where the player is viewing, but the game simulation doesn't know where all the players are looking in a multiplayer game, so that sort of nixes that. Unless we had the players all sync "what planet am I looking at?" that wouldn't really be possible.

Of course, now that I think of it, having that synced would be pretty interesting as we could put in a feature where you'd be able to jump to the view of your allies...

So maybe I will do that, after all. Anyway, no video needed -- thanks!

Okay, in that case, just close this report. If it's intended behaviour I don't need to worry xD

Speaking of which, is there anything preventing you from making these skips even more prominent by halfing again and thus saving more cycles, or will that introduce amusing artifacts?

Confirmed. Ships on AI planets not scouted that you are viewing are no longer skipping.
