Summary0003107: Raid starships ignoring gravitational turrets
DescriptionI have a set of three raid starships attacking my homeworld and completely ignoring the gravity generators I place in their way. Their speed is down to 93 (even before I built the turrets), not the 2 that my gravitation turret mark IIIs should be enforcing.

Seems like either they're silently immune to gravity effects, or something went wrong with the gravity effects optimization.

I can provide a save, if needed.

If you have a save, that would be much appreciated, yes. Thanks!

Uh oh, this one's probably going to be hard to track down. It went away when I reloaded the save. I'll upload it anyway.

Okay -- hmm, that is curious, then.

The raid starships are on Denominationscarce, having flown all the way from Autonomyeat as part of a broken golems (hard) exogalactic strike force.

As best I can tell, they only got out of Autonomyeat because the bug had already triggered. I had a brief power outage, but that seems to have been caused by them destroying Mincechunk, and I don't believe they had enough time to get there fairly (though time is hard to judge mid-battle).

They also seem to have ignored gravity generators placed on Shelterbreed, though it's hard to tell because those were placed shortly before they warped out of the system.

Hmm, the power outage could have caused that... hmm. Right now I kind of have to chalk it up to an unknown thing, until we get a way to reproduce it, or start seeing it a bunch. :/

Yeah. At least there's a workaround by way of save/reload. And if that fails, we nail it. :D

Indeed! If you see it again, I would like to know, though -- especially if it's not near the timing of a power outage.

Thinking about this a bit more, I'm very suspicious about the specific speed that the raid starships had. 93 is an odd number for a ship with 296 base speed. The logistical command station should have dropped it to 148, which is not only much higher, but their speed was also decreased long after they exited that system.

My bug intuition (which, as you well know, is often wrong) suggests that being influenced by multiple gravity effects in Autonomyeat (logistical command station + grav turrets) somehow caused the ships to end up in an inconsistent state where they were covered by a gravity effect that they shouldn't be. The system would then see the existing effect and assume it was correct, causing it to bail out before it found the grav turrets.

I'll definitely keep a close eye on the next batch of raid starships to stop by Autonomyeat. And drop a save *before* the effect appears, in the hopes that it appears reliably.

Did they show up as part of a Capital-class (spirecraft or Golem) ship's escort? If so, they will match its speed, regardless of other effects, which includes gravity effects that Spirecraft and Golems are both immune to. Off the top of my head I don't know of any spirecraft or golems that have 93 speed, but this has been an issue for a while (the gravity not affecting escorts part).

"...as part of a broken golems (hard) exogalactic strike force."

It came with a Black Widow Golem, but I didn't notice the speed offhand. They default to 80, but one of the AIs is using Speed Boosters, so 93 might come out of one or two of those.

Bingo. Looks like Sunshine's explanation was correct: they are indeed matching speed with the golem, and ignoring gravity effects in the process.

No raid starships specifically in this wave, but loading the save produces a mix of speed 2 and speed 80 in the enemy ships at Autonomyeat. I've also got a save from just before the golem spawned, if that would be useful.
