Description | A statistically not-insignificant percentage of the population are addicted to various mind altering substances. This renders them less productive in the real world, and less useful within the zodiac. Rehabilitation Centres, brainwashing, implants, or various physical alterations could rectify this. Could be represented ingame as an additional population type that can be converted to others, or the filth mechanic could possibly be repurposed for this with a few alterations. Might be better treated as disease-adjacent once that's more of a thing. | ||||

The obvious inversion of this (which I'm amazed I didn't think of back then) would be TMI recognising that addiction could be a powerful tool in their arsenal. If either the general populace or targeted key demographics were to become dependent on a substance TMI controls the production of and/or access to, well, we've suddenly got a whole lot of power over them. Keep the masses docile, control the elites, or create chaos by suddenly removing the supply again. There's quite possibly a goal state or two in this. |
