| Description | I find that when hitting next turn it would be helpful to close certain UI elements, in particular the handbook because it blocks other parts of the UI I would want to see upon a new turn starting. It's particularly notable because the button to close it is pretty small on the top right in my screen (21:9 1440p) so it would just feel smoother to have next turn close it. | ||||

In a lot of UIs, hitting return does close the window. If you run into any where that's not the case, then please do report specific cases. As you hit spacebar, it clears notifications on the right hand side as well (return does not have that function in the general HUD, as it's not "in a window" per se). The exceptions to what close on the right-hand side are things that open another window (usually research), or in particular the handbook entries, as you noticed. There is no hotkey whatsoever to close those handbook entries, by design. The handbook entries that pop up in that way are the incredibly high-priority ones, which is pretty much limited to the tutorial. A player in a hurry would just click past them. When you try to click past it using a hotkey, it instead puts up an arrow pointing to it, saying you have to hover that first. This is because otherwise players just breeze by the tutorial information. It's less disruptive than a full-screen modal popup, but it basically serves the same function of "no progress until you at least pretend you read this." ;) As a general rule, that's just a tutorial mechanic. |
