Summary | 0002124: Always show weapon ranges toggle
Description | On all ships, even unselected ones. Sometimes I want to know how far every ship, ally and enemy, on the planet can shoot, and have that stay on for some extended fights. It would be useful if the range circles for all ally and enemy weapons could be made to stay always on with a key toggle or a control so I don't have to mouseover one of each of the enemy ship types all the time for when it is very useful to have that information.

Unless you are running on a godlike CPU or GPU, this is a bad idea. Even just 50 range circles slows down the game by a lot. |
Exactly. |
It doesn't seem to hurt much when I do it with a few thousand ships, but I do have a very good computer. It might stutter a little but, but it is very worthwhile to monitor ranges closely in some not-rare situations. |
Then you have a god like computer :O Either that, or my computer sucks. Probably both. :P |
If it turns out that the removal of alpha blending improves performance by a lot, can this be re-opened? |
Probably not. I don't think it's too much to ask for people to hold Z+X when they want to see this. The reason being that if their CPU/GPU spikes, they can just let go of the buttons. Whereas if it ever does get spiked by this with it on permanently from settings, you have no recourse but to kill the program, losing all progress. Then people complain and THAT becomes a bug report, etc. In general, I'm not a fan of settings options that have a high chance of crashing some people's games, even if it would work fine for other people. |
Oh hey. Z+X will reveal all enemy ranges too. Problem solved! (mostly) |
Oh -- glad that helps, at least! :) |
