Product Version | 4.031 | ||||
Summary | 0001354: I can't upgrade to latest beta anymore
Description | I have tried to update the game to 4.022, and now 4.033, and it does not work. I am on Mac OS X, the latest version. When I do try to update, it downloads the files in game, and I have to manually use the updater in the folder to update. Before this, there was no problem, but for whatever reason this update kills the program....meaning when I try to launch the game with the icon, nothing happens. I have done a full install again twice by downloading mac version of game, then had the game download game updates to 4.031.

The good news is that the game is actually running and the error messages are a lot more useful than they could be. The problem seems to be some missing folders, which is... beyond odd. It might be a strange permissions thing, or some sort of antivirus interfering. When you look in the runtimedata folder, do you see a sounds folder? And a music folder with an ingame folder inside it? Are you using any antivirus? |
Yes, both the sounds folder and the music folder with an ingame folder inside it are present. I am not using any antivirus on the computer. I tried to open the game again and again, and then looked at the errors reports to see if any more were to come up. It is still showing the 13th as the last day of errors, and will not produce anything in the reports for today. |
Oh, okay -- then that's much different. Hmmm. Can you try right-clicking the AIWar.app package, hit Show Package contents, and then go into Content/MacOS inside it? You should see an AI War executable that you can use to launch the game. It may be that for some reason your AIWar.app package got a bit messed up during the upgrade. You can also try running chmod +x pathtoaiwar.app at the command line, and that might repair it if it's a permissions thing. I'm not sure why this happened to just you and not the others testing this on osx, though -- that's the oddest part. |
The same thing is happening to both my Macbook Pro laptop, and also on my brand new Imac. There are no errors coming up on my imac either. |
Is it? Dang. Well, let's see what happens with the above, and then we'll go from there. If the above doesn't work, if you can zip up your AIWar.app executable and upload that, then I can use that to try to figure out what's going on. |
Ok...I did what you said on both of my machines. I can use the AI War executable to launch the game, and it launches to 4.033. The command line function is not working though, but I really don't have much experience with it at all. Its just odd that the main app and shortcut on my doc won't work anymore. |
Well, apparently this is some sort of corruption of the app package based on the upgrade from Unity 3.0 to 3.1. I didn't really expect the chmod to work, but I figured it was worth a shot in case the permissions were reset. Can you zip up your AIWar.app folder and upload it, so that I can see the differences between yours and mine? That should help me find the resolution. In the meantime, if you launch the AI War executable directly, you can at least play the game (and, later, you can update to a version which hopefully won't have that issue). |
The zip file of the whole AI War folder is over 500mb....when zipping the aiwar.app only, it is still 25mb. |
Whoa, yeah, I just need the aiwar.app, please don't send me the rest of the stuff. 25mb sounds about right, if you're okay with uploading that -- something like http://www.filedropper.com/ would let you send it pretty quick. |
Alright, here is the uploaded app. http://www.filedropper.com/aiwar |
Hold on...this is screwy. I copied the whole AI Folder to my desktop, and right after I sent you that link, I decided to just try to open the app with just the regular icon, and it worked. I don't understand why the original folder icon in my Applications does not work, but this one does. |
Weird...I just took the copied folder I had, and had it replace my original AI War folder in Applications, and now it is working as advertised. |
That... is truly odd. It must have been some sort of OS metadata thing. For now we'll call this one closed, then, but please do let me know if you run into this again. I assume the same thing works with your other computers? I'll wait to close it until I hear on that; but if so, then there's not likely to be anything I can find in the zipped files. |
Yes I just went ahead and tried it on my macbook pro, and it is working as well. |
Thanks for all your help! |
That's really odd... but I'm glad it worked, at any rate! Thanks so much for your help with tracking it down, too. :) |
