Hmm, I did just build the Spire City, maybe these guys wanted a piece of that? Since they had Golem, Mk V ship and Core Starships with them, and seem to be headed straight for it actually. CPA was 1300 or so ships, while I suddenly had 2000 threat. I built the City 10 sec before the CPA... I might be too trigger happy with reports ;) |

spire city spawns all sorts of nasty things. what diff were you on? (i ran at 8, got 3 black widows, a half dozen core starships, literally thousands of support fleet... |

sounds about right yeah. (I use to 8 AIs) And now they are sending armored golems at me and genrally 800 to 1000 support fleet with MK III, IV and V ships. Plus a bunch of nasty core starships and flagships :) |

4 planets. but non is bordering the spire world since it in the middle of my planet cluster. Basic illustration: 2 AI planets -- Choke planets -- Core planets --Spire planets -- Core planets -- Choke planets -- 2 AI planets They attack form both sides, and I have seen them spawn further out as well then then border planets. I got about 240 AIP now as well, I only awe black widows before I hit high AIP, so it might be related. |

huh keith didnt mention aip involvement.. do you actualy have the defenses to hold that kind of stuff? |

no. I actually need the bulk of my main fleet to hold it off, so my offensive is nigh zero. Its like a ping pong game right now, my main fleet going back and forth from the choke planets. The AIP might be unrelated, it was just an observation, might have been random. |

Yea, the golems are normal for the fallen-spire event attacks at that stage on diff 8. The initial wave when you start the hub has a budget of 60,000 points; once the hub is complete there's a gradual accumulation of event-attack points from each of the Spire things you have (not all of them, but most), and when it passes the current threshold it spawns another attack. That threshold starts at 10,000 and increases by 25% of the currrent with each attack. So 12,500, 15,625, 19531, etc... but there's a larger interval between each one because it doesn't increase the rate of accumulation. On Diff 8 there's a 1.5x multiplier for the size of the attacks once triggered, so the first threshold is still hit at 10,000 but the actual attack is about 15,000, etc. It's also multiplied by the number of human homeworlds. Were you playing with 1 or more? |

And yea, these attacks neither increase with AIP, nor increase AIP :) |

Hmm, that does seem oddly high, then. I'll need to take a look at the save to see what the counters are doing. The initial attack of 90,000 would have some golems since that's pretty high, but the gradually-built-up ones starting at 15,000 shouldn't even have a black widow. You see, it sends one group against your home command station, one against your city hub, and one against the refugee outpost. The total budget is spread across those three battlegroups. Within each of those, it spends 1/3rd on the command ship, 1/3rd on some escorts (high mark guardians, fairly often), and 1/3rd on fleet ships. Since a black widow golem is 5,000 points, for a battlegroup to get a widow as its command ship the overall armada budget would need to be 5,000 * 3 * 3 = 45,000. An armored golem is 10,000 points, so that would need to be a total of 90,000. I just ran some excel spreadsheets and it looks like: 1) The 6th attack would have 45,776 points on Diff 8. 2) If you had the full complement of Spire stuff that you can currently build you would accumulate 100 event-attack points per second, which would lead to the 6th attack happening at 18-19 minutes after the completion of the hub. 3) The 10th attack would have 111,758 points on Diff 8, and would happen at 55-56 minutes after the completion of the hub. Anyway, this looks a bit over-intense even at diff 8, I probably need to halve the event-attack-point accumulation rates, which would push those two times back to 37-38 minutes and 110-111 minutes. Even that might be a bit much, though to some extent trying to play the Spire plot on Diff 8 is going to be an intense experience, particularly at this stage ;) |

Ok, in my working copy I'm cutting the accumulation rate to 1/4 of what it is in 4.032. Don't worry, if you keep pursuing the quest line, it'll pick up speed ;) |

Hmm, well, actually those numbers look a little low for diff 8, so back up to 35% of what it was... who knows what it'll be when we actually release it ;) |

but the widows ARE NOT the command ship! its a fleet unit... if youll note in the .032 release thread, ive a few observations, notably: If i engine kill the leader, a core starship, the entire group wont go very far away from him. The widow was one of those units.. |

I do have all the spire stuff built yeah. Last attack I had had about 4 armored golems, several core starships and lots of fleet ships in total. I can add a later save as well. |

Well, there's also a rule whereby if it has points leftover from the command ship, it carries them to the escorts, and if it has leftovers from that it carries them to the fleet ships, and if it still has leftovers it spends them on the biggest thing that fits in what is left, which can thus actually be bigger than the command ship. The reason is that there can only be 1 command ship, only about 15 escorts, and only about 300 fleet ships (I forget exactly how many), so it may not be able to spend all the points. I need to make that a bit more intelligent in general. |

thats.. *it*? so thats only.. 3 command ships, 45 assorted starships, and 900 assorted fleet ships. Oh, and maybe a few golems. Easy. |

Well, bear in mind that I'm far from done with filling out the ships it can pick from, and I'm probably going to let it pick more command ships and escorts if it's having a hard time finding a place to put all the points. Even as it is, you could theoretically find yourself facing about 50 armored golems if it had some stupidly high budget. You see, there's no rule that the escorts actually have to be _smaller_ than the command ship, it just won't spend more than a certain percentage of its budget on them. |

Yes, i figured that out when my sieges knockede out the engines of the command ship :p was kinda 'nice' to have ~ 200 ships, incl widow and two spire stars, 'stuck' unable to do much of anything. |
