Summary | 0010682: Tier 3 Spell Balance report part 2
Description | Thanks to the new cheat debug facility I was able to test a few more Tier 3 classes. Classes tested: (Torn)amancer, (Hyet)alist, (Timb)ermancer, (Verv)ician, (Erad)igist Primaries Torn primary is a ricochet shot. Seems fine. Hyet primary is a straight shot spell. Caliber reads -(minus)30 on this? Not sure if this is a typo or the actual stat. Either way it's bugged. Raw power seems slightly underpowered, being closer to a typical Tier 2 than Tier 3 spell. Timb primary is a sliding shot. Good, possibly too high caliber. Verv primary is a slow firing bendable shot. Slightly higher power compensates for the lack of projectile speed. Maybe a slightly higher caliber would be nice. Erad primary is a triple shot. Seems fine to me. Usability Scores: Torn : B Hyet : C (a bit weak for Tier 3) Timb : A (scrapes an A due to high caliber) Verv : B (scrapes a B although a slight caliber boost would be nice) Erad : B Weird caliber typo/bug on Hyet needs fixing. Also a slight power boost might be nice. Timb sliding shot caliber could be reduced to 40 or 50. Verv slow moving shot has good power, but maybe a slight boost to caliber would be in order. Secondaries Torn secondary is a new melee blast attack. Weakish offensively, but can allow you to effectively double your jump height. Allows you to bypass all double jump barriers, or triple jump barriers if you have double jump. Useful. Hyet secondary is a pretty low power, slow moving mass attack. Needs its caliber upped to 60 or so to be usable over the primary. Timb secondary is yet another overpowered in terms of DPS two way shot. Completely dominates most Tier 3 primaries. Big caliber too -- OP. Verv secondary is a crescent arc style attack. Useful offensively and defensively. Erad secondary is a typical whip attack. Seems fine. Usability Scores: Torn : A (gotta give this A due for it's tactical uses) Hyet : D (C really but it gets completely dominated by the primary so I've downgraded it) Timb : A (massive DPS, caliber and split shot) Verv : B Erad : B Torn is just a pretty cool secondary. Extra useful if you don't have any jumping perks or feats. Doesn't really need changing I don't think. Hyet secondary gets completely dominated in all areas by the primary. These type of mass shots should always have a much higher caliber than the primaries I think, otherwise there's no point in using them. Timb cleft shot is OP. Far too high DPS and caliber for a split shot. Specials Torn special is the newly updated fusillade shot. Can do pretty high DPS from close range, but only consistently against big enemies due to the low accuracy. Seems a bit better now. I would use these on some occasions over the primary thanks to the recent changes. Hyet special is a trident shot. Much more useful now that it can kill melee monsters. Seems OK. Timb special is a sine attack. Always useful. Verv special is a air mine attack. Tactically very useful. Erad special is another fusillade attack, very similar to the Torn one. Usability Scores: Torn : B Hyet : B Timb : B Verv : A (scrapes an A) Erad : B No problems here. One thing I've noticed though is that shooting the fusillade attack at an angle will produce a much more accurate flurry compared to firing horizontally or vertically. Maybe the diagonals should be altered to be more consistent with the horizontal/verticals. Ammo attacks Torn ammo attack is a pretty low cost multi-projectile ammo attack. Low cost makes this decent. Hyet ammo attack is one of those reckless ones. Pretty damn poor. Worse in every way than the Tier 1 equivalent. Not quite as bad as the Tier 4 Obli version, but still bad. Life cost is half, which is OK. Ammo cost is 8 which is a bit high for this type of attack. The damage is pretty terrible, though. Two primary bullets does as much damage as one of these blasts at this Tier. Timb ammo attack is similar to the Torn ammo attack (same cost) albeit half the power. I don't really get why this does half the power of the Torn one. Verv ammo attack is a giant AOE blast. 10 cost is OK. Decent. Erad ammo attack is a high power high cost version of the Torn one. The high cost make this less flexible than the Torn version. Needs a slight power boost I think if it's going to stay competitive with the Torn one. Usability scores: Torn : B Hyet : D Timb : C Verv : B Erad : C The main problem here is the Hyet reckless attack. The scaling of these reckless attacks per Tier seems to be messed up. The Tier one version outshines the later Tier versions I've tested in every way. This one needs a damage boost and possibly a slight ammo cost reduction. Timb ammo attack has half the power of the Torn one. Not sure why when the cost is the same. With the Erad multi-projectile the cost is high so the spell is less flexible. I could easily spam out 4 Torn attacks if I wanted to get the same power as this, plus there would be extra projectiles flying around the screen. Maybe a slight power boost to emphasise its advantage in power. Overall Class scores Torn : 17 A Hyet : 10 C Timb : 17 A Verv : 17 A Erad : 15 B As you can see the class with the most problems is Hyetalist. The primary seems slightly underpowered and there is a weird bug/typo on the caliber description. The secondary is lower DPS than the primary, slower and only marginally bigger in terms of caliber. Seems a prime candidate to be made into a defensive spell by boosting its caliber to 60 or so. The ammo attack seems quite underpowered, bested in all areas by the Tier 1 Lumb version. These reckless spells have all types of scaling balance problems as far as I can see. The Timber secondary is another one of those grossly overpowered in term of DPS split shots. Needs nerfing. The Timb ammo attack is surprisingly half the power of the Torn version. This actually helps balance the class at the moment as otherwise Timb would be vastly overpowered as a class. Not sure if this is the way that the class is intended to be balanced, though. Fusillade shot could do with their diagonal shooting behaviour looking at. It fires straighter and more accurately when shooting at a diagonal. That's it for Tier 3. All classes tested.
