Summary | 0010165: Auto-Save is the real overlord to worry about
Description | This can be equally as helpful as it is catastrophic. On even the easiest difficulty, the overlord quickly decided to overrun my only farm, then camp it leaving me without food until over time i could reach another place suitable to set up a farm, by this point, however, morale had dropped incredibly low (-70) and no mistakes could be reversed. On a more drawn out game, this sort of behavior (camping and quickly destroying all useful buildings faster than new ones can be set up) could ruins hours of work instantly without a chance to fight back. AVWW's auto save was better in that you weren't constantly being hunted down with a veritable lose condition (and not a matter of what you did wrong), but this having a turn-based strategy system behind it, the inability to make your own save points to rely on for when the overlord decides to stop playing fair is a nightmare on even the easiest of strategy difficulties.

Just make sure to have several farms built...? |
Also a good idea to have an ample amount. I will sometimes leave survivors on a farm tile and have them produce food as well as get the turn bonus for being on the tile. This gets me so much food that it's a non-issue really. |
When your farm starts in movement range of the overlord's first turn, food is a very real issue. Especially on higher difficulties when you do not have many turns before he comes into play. |
Maybe players should be able to spend mana to "rewind time"? Then you don't have to think about creating save files, but it's not free either. |
Don't underestimate the worth of good scavengers, even in places where scavenging isn't good. It will sustain you with four people until you do find another farm. However, I can see how on the very HIGHEST strategic difficulties how this could become a problem. |
If people really want to savescum the game, you can use the backup world feature for that. I think one of the big issues is RNG in terms of finding a second farm in the early game. There ought to be another guaranteed farm close to the starting point so you don't get food-screwed right off the start. |
The starting farm should definitely start out of movement range of the overlord every time (or the other way around). Him taking 1 turn longer to get it destroyed is a whole extra 50 food to work with. |
He's camping there? He's not chasing your other survivors around the map? He should be chasing and going after other stuff. If he's literally just camping in one spot, could you please send me that save? |
I deleted that world after he starved us out and it was gameover. Sorry, didn't think about being a bug in the overlord, just that being able to choose when it saves would be nice. But he was still moving between turns, just going in a small circle over the farm and the destroyed town spaces (where the clinic was), taking 3 steps each time: farm -> clinic -> farm -> clinic... i couldn't even rebuild them, and kept my survivors trying to expand to build more, but failures led to injuries, and low food led to low morale, and they quickly died off with a single healthy survivor and an injured survivor, and morale was still too low to replenish the negative morale, and he killed himself, the overlord still camping the other corner of the map. | F | _ | T | | _ | _ | C | F arm _ grassland T own/city C linic |

The initial idea is something we can maybe consider, but to be honest, I'm much more concerned about the behavior you are describing from the Overlord. If you see this again, please send me the save of it so I can maybe see what's going on. |
Okay, I'll be sure to get it if it pops up. As for the saving, for balance issues, it could ask to save every time you dispatch the survivors (or a setting to autosave, possibly by difficulty of game when starting) so you have to accept the outcome of the dispatch mission, in the order: mission details, ask save, mission, save |
