Summary | 0007833: Make automatically issued pause commands optional
Description | In 5.034, a few improvements were added to the handling of fullscreen mode and loss of focus. However, I have noticed that one side effect of this is that whenever I alt-tab out of the game, it automatically pauses. As I play in fullscreen and alt-tab frequently to check IM windows and other things while waiting for my fleet to finish moving somewhere, for example, I would appreciate an option to keep the game running in the background even if it does not have focus. To accomplish this, it would be handy to have for example a checkbox somewhere in the options that allows a player to turn off the automatic issuing of pause commands based on focus loss. There is a similar checkbox for auto-pausing on certain dangerous Fallen Spire events, so perhaps that's where the new checkbox could go.

For 5.035: * Added new toggle to Interface tab of Settings window: Disable Pause On Lost Focus. ** Normally the game will automatically pause if it detects that the game has lost focus (it can only detect this in fullscreen mode, not windowed mode). ** Enabling this toggle will suppress that auto-pause behavior, which may be helpful for multiplayer games and some other situations. Thanks :) |

Thanks for the addition! I've tried it in the current version... sadly, even though no pause commands are issued, the game still seems to pause upon losing focus. When I alt-tab back in, it continues playing normally, but it behaves as if it's paused as long as it doesn't have focus. Before 5.034, alt-tabbing out did not pause the game, but it did have the game running at normal speed, no matter which speed modifier was applied via +/-. It seems to me that the current problem is similar - once alt-tabbed out, something causes the game speed to be different from what it should be. Should I open a new ticket for this, and/or take it to the forums to discuss, in case that's easier? |
|
I'd say reopen this ticket, as it is basically the original fix not completely covering what was described. Make sure you do this by clicking the reopen button, not just set the resolution to reopened. |
|
Reopening the ticket as suggested, see my comment above about the game still pausing. |

For 5.036: * Fixed a bug with the do-not-auto-pause-on-lost-focus toggle where the lost-focus logic was still suppressing basically all game logic even though it wasn't entering a formally paused state. Thanks :) |
