Summary | 0004734: Robots cannot fit through some levels
Description | Hello, I've been playing as a robot for quite a while now, and I've noticed a few things (probably already pointed out, but I'd like to give some suggestions) First off is the obvious size difference. Most levels are generated for humans, and thus the robots have a tough time fitting into certain paths (Underground caves are the biggest offender for this). I'm wondering if this was an intentional balance choice, since Robots don't get affected by cold/heat? I've used Bat scrolls to get out of those situations but I don't think I should be forced to as it makes it tedious and forces me to keep the bat scrolls on an active slot. Maybe the bots can crouch when near a tight space but move slower as a result (this being dynamic so the player doesn't have to concern themselves over it), or maybe double tap down to make then crouch to human height and double tap up to get them back to standard height? The other issue with using a bat scroll while playing as a robot is that you are more likely to get stuck in a ceiling when turning back, especially when in the Underground caves where things are cramped or jutting out (which is where you need it the most).

Feels like it's intentional to me. I just stock up on bat scrolls, myself. Especially now that their resistances make skelebots the only characters that can be immune to fire DoT and cold damage at the same time, which becomes a -major- thing when fighting highlevel dragons in icy areas. |
Unless Ice Age characters in a heatsuit also get both resistances, I haven't tried that yet. In which case the above balance point is moot. |
It still seems to me like a poor choice for balancing out a character. cold/heat resistance is a great thing, but I'd trade most of it for the ability to continually move through levels without having to spam my Bat Scrolls. it's even worse if I happen to get stuck upon entering a boss room. I've had to bat myself, fly through the spaces, and then unbat, usually getting myself stuck in the wall in the process, leaving me a sitting duck to the boss(es). It just seems to me there should be a way to gain more movement as a robot, but still have a slight drawback to counter it, like slower movement while crouching. |
Thinking about it, a megaman-style slide for skelebots, while maybe a bit silly, would be awesome, and take care of that problem. Down + Jump = Sliiiiiiide. Maybe even for all characters, to be able to get through one-tile high spaces. |
It's intentional, yes, but it does FEEL broken. Doesn't mean it needs to change, mind you, so long as it's obvious that it's intentional. |
Still, a slide-spell of some sort would be nice. Movement in this game should be fun. Being blocked by openings too small for your char to walk through standing, but big enough for them to crawl through isn't. 's actually a bit of an immersion breaker, imo. |

A similar idea, different reasons. I didn't think of combat implications when I suggested crouching, but I suppose that could be a good use too. I would be fine with the item pickup animation for crouching and for the whole sliding idea, I can take it or leave it. I would rather use the bat scrolls for those 1 space high areas, because then the bat scroll feels more useful.. I just don't like using it to do basic moving around because I have no other choice. |
This is intentional. We actually don't necessarily want the skelebots to always bee a viable option. |
I think part of the problem here is that if skelebots aren't ALWAYS a viable option, then - as a character choice - they're NEVER a viable option. I can't speak for everyone but I know when I choose a character I expect to be that character until they die, not until I reach a narrow tunnel and have to abandon them in favour of someone shorter... It strikes me that the current way skelebots are handled, they'd make a better transmogrification spell than character choice. |
