Description | I think that the ghosts are neat, and I thought they could be expanded to tie into the strategic game. Ghosts as we know them should spawn under regular conditions, but more sinister dead could spawn if other conditions were met. Some examples that came to mind: Ghoul - chance of spawning if a character dies and food demand is greater than food supply. I fast, hunched-over humanoid that can latch onto you, regenerating its own health while preventing you from using spells and items. Can be knocked off with touch/melee spells. Juggernaut - chance of spawning if there are no grave plots left and you are in a certain radius of an overlord's tower. The overlord enjoyed your suffering so much he thought he'd contribute. Stands taller than a human, and is constructed using parts of the dead. Charges like a rhino, but with much more devastating results. Eater of the Dead - chance of spawning if there are no grave plots left and character is killed in a windstorm. Continues to get bigger and stronger if it is not killed before more characters die. Essentially, a sentient pile of corpses. Can spawn specters to attack - weaker than ghosts but still hunt down the living tirelessly. ===== So, lots of thoughts there, but I think it would raise the stakes of the strategic game by making sure players manage food and graves better, and don't stray too far into the wind. | ||||

A lot of the specifics here no longer apply, but the idea of the chance of other types of ghosts is still worthy of consideration, IMO. |

Why can't we have more friendly spirits also? It seems like a somewhat slap in the face to be playing a hero for so long, only for them to die and become a wretched dead being. |
