Summary | 0028409: Unit Customization tutorials should specify that it applies to android Class and equipment is abstract
Description | When I added the Slayer ability and both starting items, I was then surprised that both my Technician units had them. Most turn-based tactics games have instanced equipment.

It says it two places currently. First, by your mouse cursor when you're about to go into the equipment window. Secondly, at the top of the loadout screen it notes "customizing unit class,: and if you hover that it says the info. But that's an unlikely place for most players to look. I thought it also said it on the confirmation button when you're about to make changes, but it does not. Do you think if I added it there, you would have seen it? |
Maybe. The Apply tooltip could say "All loadout adjustments are free, and they apply to all units of the same class...". I think I was focused on the tutorial text more than the UI. Mention it in "Equip The Slayer Ability" and "(Optional) Change Your Equipment" objectives directly, and maybe rename the Customize Loadout menu to Customize Class Loadout or similar. The "Customizing Unit Class: Technician" is both a little redundant and might be misread to mean "Customizing Unit, Class: Technician" (note the comma). You could remove that line and put the class in the title bar. |
I've seen a few people surprised that customizing is done by class rather than specific unit, I think it may be because of how we access the customize screen: You have to select a specific unit first to open the customize screen for that unit's class. Many people will implicitly assume that this means you are customizing that specific unit. If instead there was a separate customize menu where you could see all the unit classes available to you, choose one and then customize it; then it would be more intuitively obvious that you're altering classes and not specific units. This would also allow us to customize classes that we have available but haven't actually produced yet which would be nice. |
Part one: * The text on the apply changes for customization on the loadout screen now has a bunch of extra information about customization being per-class, and why that is. |
As far as a dedicated screen where you can customize your units off a list, I do agree that would be nice, and probably should be an additional thing later. But I also like the current method, because it is minimal clicks for players, and does not require finding another interface. It is true that this flow was originally from when customization WAS per unit, so the fact that it's a bit feeling like that is, well, logical. |

Thanks! * In the part of the tutorial where you are asked to do the loadout, it now has a handbook entry that opens and which explains that loadouts are per unit class, and why. |
