Summary | 0002682: Remove the no cold-storage rule on planets humans have vision on rule
Description | This rule seems to make it really tough to observe the behavior (or lack of behavior when they should have some) of cold-storage ships, because the mere act of observing changes the state. Honestly, it seems like a silly hack to try to work around odd behavior with cold-storage, instead of trying to deal with the actual problem. This can lead to some potential weird bugs with cold-storage to be covered up whenever a human tries to see it. Potentially, even undetected scouts, which the AI is not supposed to care about at all, could start influencing the AI's behaviors. Aka. it seems to make it tricky to debug cold-storage related stuff. As interesting as quantum mechanical like behavior is (observing influences state in a non-trivial way), it seems like more loss than gain.

Ships that are in cold storage aren't doing anything anyway. I think you misunderstand the mechanic. Low power != cold storage. |
|
That's the thing. What if they are supposed to be doing something, but they are not being taken out of cold-storage when they are supposed to. Thus, they will start doing things later than they should of, triggered by activity from a human that very well may not be related to what they were supposed to do in the first place, thus creating "delayed" actions or whatever. This does seem like one rare but possible class of bugs that would be tricky to debug with this rule. |
