Summary | 0015635: shift(?)-click to select a subset of the currently selected units no longer works
Description | When I played AI War back in January, I remember that I could hold shift (?) to select a subset of the currently selected units. For example, if I select a bunch of units, the box on the right side might show: Bomber I x3 Bulletproof I x1 Fighter I x9 Star:Flag x1 Missile Frigate I x7 Say I want to select the first three. I used to be able to hold shift and click on their names, which would highlight them in the list. Upon releasing shift, the highlighted items would become the new selection. Now it behaves as though shift wasn't held, so if I shift-click "Bomber I x3", that immediately becomes the new selection. Why? It was really useful as it was before. Please fix it.

I don't think the behavior was as you described, but perhaps I misremember. Anyway, you can alt-left-click the parts of the selection you don't want, though currently there's a conflict on linux with that combination. |
I distinctly remember being able to select multiple ship types at once back in January, although I'm only 90% sure of the exact details. Alt-clicking to remove types I don't want isn't very helpful since if I select my blob it's usually got about 25 ship types in it, and clicking 20 times to get just the ones I want is a pain... |
the icons for ship types along the side bar. using shift click on that adds it to the current selection. that is the only form of this that has ever been implemented to the best of my knowledge (well.. and shift drag box..) not a bad suggestion tho. |
Using the side bar adds all ships of a given type (i.e. all the different tiers), though. I know you can theoretically use the filters, but it's quite tricky to hold down Shift, N, 4, and click at the same time, depending on your keyboard. Anyway, I accept that I may be misremembering, but I really don't think so... But I leave it as a suggestion. |
I've implemented an experimental version of this in a mod: http://www.arcengames.com/forums/index.php/topic,16085.0.html Hopefully the devs will eventually include it in the base game. |
