Summary0017388: Chatbox for quickly meeting up with players.
DescriptionSince it's not very easy right now to find some people to play with, Maybe it would be a good idea to add an in-game chatbox so that you can see people who are also waiting to meet up with players to create a game together. This would make it a lot easier to actually find people rather then have to install an IRC channel, then connect but fail every time, and/or having to post forum topics in order to find someone. Now you are straight at the place you want to be, and able to chat directly with the players who are in the same state.

If the chatbox would be placed in the muliplayer screen, it would be a great feature i think.

I closed this so that way there isn't any split support. Feel free to support the other issue, though!

One of the reasons why there isn't an IRC client like that is because AI War is a very time-intensive game, and a "casual" game could last 10-20 hours. Chris also had this to say: "Matchmaking services are neither simple nor inexpensive, nor would they be of particular help for this game. When games last 8-12 hours routinely, you don't need a matchmaking service -- you need a way for regular groups to form and meet. That's these forums, and we have a subforum dedicated to that. I'm sorry you're frustrated, but this isn't a typical RTS where matches last 15-60 minutes at most. That means that, even if we had a matchmaking service, there would be very few people on it because most people would be actively in game the majority of the time; the match time greatly exceeds the matchup time. The math of the situation means that no matchmaking system would behave like you expect with a game like this.

Also: given that this game is co-op only, it's something built around the idea of groups of friends playing together, rather than total strangers." That topic can be found at https://www.arcengames.com/forums/index.php/topic,8757.0.html :)
