Summary0004856: Experience bonus based on full exploration
DescriptionIn order to encourage people to explore housing structures, dungeons fully, give experience based on full exploration(i.e. visited 100%) of these structures. The amount depending on how complicated the structure is and the level. This little extra incentive would make the exploration component more enjoyable and goal oriented.

The reason you scout two nodes ahead is that you're NOT supposed to go through every single room in a building. Due to the procedural nature of the game there's a LOT of dead weight to many structures and you're supposed to cherry pick the parts that hold meaning to you.

The only rooms that really hold any meaning to me now are stash rooms or boss rooms. I have no reason to enter any other room.

Maybe there should be the chance for a survivor npc to be attempting to hide in one of the normal rooms (not destroyed but nothing particularly special about them either)

The game is fairly open ended in the way you want to do things. Whether i wish to cherry pick or explore completely is really my decision. Some people like to explore and gain enjoyement out of that. Some people want to enter a building, see that 100% upon full exploration and feel like there time was well spent. Adding experience even if it is a small amount gives validation to it and really would add longevity to the game. This 'dead weight' accordingly would no longer be.

We will continue to add more exploration-related rewards, which I think will get at your core desire here. However, encouraging players to fully explore all buildings is the exact _opposite_ of what we really want to do. The goal is for players to pop into a building, scout ahead a little and find what they want, and quickly get out.

As soon as we start giving "completion bonuses" for people, then we start having a real incentive for players to grind buildings, and that just winds up feeling tedious, etc. To me it's a similar sort of slippery slope as the knowledge raiding was in AI War. I feel like EXP that is not combat-oriented is very important, but it has to be carefully handled and not related to anything too generalized and that can be easily farmed.

Yes, x4000, what you say makes alot of sense. It wasn't necessarily the experience bonus but rather the incentive to continue to explore similar structures, without having to bee line to the appropriate mats. I find the platforming/exploration part of this game to be relaxing and enjoyable and having the exploration-related rewards would help prolong this experience.

With the addition of stashes there's a good reason to explore buildings, you just don't have to explore every individual room, just scout the whole building. That's what the scouting function is for, you don't get to see everything immediately but you also don't have to go through 50 rooms to get the good stuff.
