Summary | 0004815: Playing over civ level risk/ reward
Description | Two kind of separate things, but tied together by being issues of playing in chunks higher than civ level. One minor, one more major. The more major one for me is the way that exp scales once you get over civ level. Its nice to get rewarded, but exp gains can be very very high. I think a single Lt. kill gave me 3 civ levels by killing it in a chunk 3-4 levels higher than mine (was close to leveling once already, but still - and killing up to get it probably netted me another 1-2 levels as well). A bat room can give me 60% + to next level from one room in chunks 3-4 higher. The speed that you can level can actually make you over level overlords or a chunk you were planning to explore quite easily, making you get almost no reward for the thing you were planning/ need to do. It is just a bit counter intuitive that I need to play easier chunks so that I don't level too fast so that when I do something I really want to, I feel more rewarded. Might not be issue for beta, but long term might drop the rate of increase for over-leveling by half? Second issue, more minor, is the higher tiered spells you can get from going in higher chunks. I've noticed that the damage generally goes up about 10% while mana use goes up about 30% for being +1 tier. In a few cases its good to use the higher tier spell since it makes a difference between 1 or 2 shots on a bat or whatever, but in boss battles, since its silly high HP anyways, saving the mana usually trumps the 10% use, so that higher tier isn't so great really. Its offset by the fact that higher tier explorers also get higher tier mana pots/scrolls, but lower tier ones usually fill me up fully anyways. So basically this one comes down to higher tier spells don't feel as nice as they probably should.

Thanks! * The general rate of EXP gain from killing bosses was too high, especially when playing against levels higher than your own. ** The rate of EXP gain has been approximately halved. ** The rate of EXP gain from lieutenants was particularly off -- it has been quartered. ** And the rate of EXP gain from overlords was even more extreme. It's now 1/8th what it previously was. * Previously, higher-tier spells that players could get were actually having their MP costs inflated by 4x of what their equivalent damage would be. ** This turned out to be way too much. The inflation has been removed. |
