Summary | 0004512: Rhinos are not inside pets.
Description | ... And Icicle Leapers like to swim. This is really a more general comment on monster behaviour, but rhinos are an amusing example, and probably the most egregious offenders. Their shape and speed tend to get them stuck in corners and narrow corridors, which is especially noticeable in rooms that are shaped such that they can all end up in one place. In the screenshot, there are somewhere between 10 and 13 rhinos stuck in a piece of corridor -- it's hard to get an exact count without tracking collars -- and only one of them managed to escape. (Only long enough to gore me twice while I was arranging screenshots, and then he charged back into his corridor.) This wasn't really that much of a problem in the past, when they would be continually spawning at various points in the room, but now it's possible to get all the monsters in one place where they can be easily done away with, or can kill you thoroughly in a couple of seconds if you're incautious enough to wade in. I suppose swimming Icicle Leapers and such aren't really that big a deal, since there tend not to be big ponds indoors. I guess this ticket is really about matching monsters to geography. Rhinos work best when they don't have to navigate too many obstacles. Icicle Leapers work best when they aren't spawning on the edge of a doom puddle. I actually kind of like seeing rhinos getting stuck in corners. It gives them personality. But then there should be some other kind of monster in the room as well, to guard the bits that aren't corners.

I see this happen a lot, too. The rhinos seem to have no problem jumping up two "spaces", but when there is only one - as you have pictured - the can't seem to make it. |
|
Their ability to jump just needs to be tweaked slightly. |
|
I don't know. I quite like the current behaviour, and just putting more than one type of monster in a room would almost certainly make up for it. (And would be more robust in the face of all sorts of monsters having issues with all sorts of terrain.) |

Resolved a while ago, thanks. :) |
